Five Key Considerations for Selecting Stainless Steel Wire Mesh Filter Cartridges

Five Key Considerations for Selecting Stainless Steel Wire Mesh Filter Cartridges

In the industrial filtration field, the selection of filter cartridges directly determines the efficiency of the entire system. Many purchasers only focus on price, only to find that later maintenance costs far exceed expectations. After fifteen years in this industry, I have compiled five key considerations that are most often overlooked but are crucial.

First, material grade. 304 and 316L are the most common, but if you are processing media containing chloride ions or sulfides, you must choose 904L or higher grade. A client of mine once chose cheaper 304 filter cartridges for brine treatment, and they corroded through within just two months.

Second, filtration accuracy – finer is not always better. Each level of precision increase adds 15% to 20% pressure loss. You need to balance flow rate and accuracy requirements.

Third, support structure. Quality filter cartridges have both inner and outer support mesh, able to withstand higher differential pressure without deformation.

Fourth, welding technology. Laser welding is more uniform than traditional spot welding, producing fewer burrs that could damage the filter media.

Fifth, the testing capability behind the brand. Whether each batch undergoes bubble point testing – this is something many small manufacturers cannot provide.
