Filtration System Design Key Points for Food and Beverage Industry

Food and beverage industry filtration requirements are indeed much stricter than ordinary industrial applications. Through multiple food factory projects, I have compiled several key design points.

First, materials must be food-grade. 304 stainless steel is the basic requirement, but for acidic or alkaline materials, 316L should be used. All product-contact surfaces must achieve a smoothness of Ra0.8 or better for easy cleaning and sterilization.

Second is the CIP cleaning system design. Filter cartridges must withstand regular alkaline washing, acid washing, and high-temperature cleaning. Many filter cartridges fail simply because they cannot withstand high temperatures and deteriorate after a few cleaning cycles.

Third is preventing secondary contamination. Filtration systems must avoid dead zones where bacteria can grow. Pipes must have proper slope angles to allow complete draining.

Last but most importantly, all materials must have FDA certification, and seals must use food-grade rubber that complies with FDA standards.
